Hot on the heels of signing import Jason Cassells, Eurologix Telford Tigers have added two hot young defencement to the squad - returnee Stuart Bates and Sam Zajac joining from Whitley Bay.
Bates spent last season with the Tigers ENL team while he concentrated on his final year at university. The 21-year-old graduated earlier this week and is glad to be stepping back up to the higher level.
Bates said: "I can't wait to play competitive hockey again. Last year was very much a development year for the ENL team, and it will be nice to really push myself this year and try to raise my game.
"I was grateful to ENL coach Jason Parry last season for the opportunity to play in his team. It allowed me to focus on getting my degree and not have to give up hockey completely because ENL have fewer games. This will be the first time in three years that I have been able to focus on my hockey."

When Daniel 'Budz' Mackriel laces up his skates as captain of Eurologix Telford Tigers this autumn, he will be embarking on his 21st season playing ice hockey. The Telford-developed star turns 28 later this month, but retains his enthusiasm for the sport he has played since he was just seven years old. 'My first senior game with the Tigers was when I was 15, so this is my 13th year of senior hockey and I guess that means I am entering the veteran stage now,' said Mackriel. 'I still get excited about the season ahead. If I didn't, I shouldn't be playing. And this year we have a lot to look forward to, with the new sponsorship deal and new players joining us. I am excited to be a part of everything that is going on at Telford now
