MATCHREPORT: Coach's Pride In Team Effort

Another Slough goth mouth scramble, but Tigers just can't get the puck over the line. Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Berkshire outfit was, on paper, a similar result to the previous weekend's defeats, when they conceded 21 goals in just two games.

But after Telford lost three players to injury during the game - as well as defenceman Daniel Croft - Watkins was delighted with his squad's efforts against one of the league's highest-scorers.

He said: "Slough are a very good side because of who they have in their line-up, but I am proud of my guys tonight.

"They worked very hard. We had a good sit-down after last week and addressed some issues we have been struggling with in practice.

"Defensively we were very strong and it was just a couple of mistakes that gave up goals, but that is just down to a lack on energy."

"It was a much improved performance from the boys."

Telford's treatment room was kept busy on Sunday night by injuries to Ryan Selwood (head), Josh Bruce (hip) and Marek Hornak (dislocated shoulder).

Hornak was rushed to hospital after falling badly during the second period,  and is likely to face a fitness test before taking part in training this week.

Watkins added: "I think we played very well tonight. We outshot them 14 to 8 in the first period and 17 to 8 in the second period.man Of The Match Scott McKenzie celebrating Tigers only goal of the game. Picture courtesy & copyright Steve Brodie Photography

"In the third period we had a lot of guys out. We had three in defence and two lines, and energy cost us a little bit in the end. Because of that, I think the scoreline flattered Slough."

The loss leaves Telford virtually out of the play-off-picture, with eighth-placed Bracknell Bees now 18 points ahead. Slough, meanwhile, still have a chance of overhauling leaders Guildford Flames at the top of the standings.

"I don't think it was a 5-1 game tonight," said Jets player-coach Doug Sheppard.

"Telford worked very hard and had every chance to win. But we have some guys who can put the puck in the net and we capitalised on our chances."

Tigers fans will be hoping their short-handed side can recover before next Saturday's trip to Swindon Wildcats.
