Telford Tigers will spend the coming week working on their powerplay tactics after Sheffield Steeldogs snatched a late 6-4 victory - condemning them to a seventh successive EPL loss.
Tom Watkins' men failed to capitalise on four separate occasions when they had a one-man advantage during Sunday night's game, while their opponents scored on every powerplay.
Two of those goals came in the final five minutes, effectively handing the game to Sheffield after they had struggled to stay on touch for much of the game.
Tigers player-coach Tom Watkins believes his side could - and should - have taken at least a point from the match.
He said: "We got stuck in, we battled hard and I do feel we should have taken something tonight. All credit to Sheffield, as they came back from 4-3 in third period.
"We took some silly penalties and they probably cost us the game. We were a bit sloppy on some of their goals. I think we gave a couple away that we really should be disappointed with.
"But I am proud of the effort and the determination of the players tonight."
Scott Mckenzie (2), Callum Bowley and Joe Henry all found themselves on the scoresheet for the home side as they dominated the early exchanges.
Telford's record in powerplay and shorthanded situations will, however, remain a concern for Watkins. He added: "If you look at Sheffield, on the powerplay they get the puck and fire it in front of goal and get couple of scrambled goals. That's hockey, that's luck. They are putting the puck in the right places and we are not doing that.
"We are not getting the guys in front of the net and causing traffic, but on the flip side of that, they have got guys like Payette standing in front of net and they are hard to move."
Sheffield Steeldogs player-coach Andre Payette, meanwhile, was counting his blessings after watching his side take a late win.
He said: "I hate this place - they always seem to give us a good game.
"I think Telford deserved much better tonight. They played hard and we were very fortunate to get out of here with two points.
"It is a very hard place to come and play in. We were asleep in the first period and had to claw our way back."
Telford must now regroup and plan for a trip to Basingstoke Bison next Saturday, but the visit of Milton Keynes Lightning on Sunday evening.
