TEAMNEWS: Rally Cry To Fans As Watkins Eyes A Flames Weekend

TIGERS DOUBLE HEADER: Guildford Flames, Away Saturday 28th & Home 29th January. Home Face Off 5:30pm, TICKETS AVAILABLE!!Tom Watkins has called for another bumper crowd against Guildford Flames at Telford Ice Rink on Sunday as he looks to spark a late revival that could lead to an unlikely place in the EPL play-offs.

The Tigers player-coach will be hoping his side can capitalise on the momentum of last weekend's victory over Sheffield Steeldogs in a double-header of games against Guildford this weekend.

That win was watched by one of the biggest gates of the season as the Tigers collected their eighth victory and moved to within 12 points of the final play-off spot.

Telford are still to play those teams around them in the table on five separate occasions, and Watkins believes his side are already benefitting from the win over Sheffield.

He said: "It is always a confidence boost after a win like that and you can tell it has been a big lift for the guys.

"It is only one game, although with the enjoyment of winning at home, I could see it in practice this week."

That confidence shown in training will no doubt have been lifted by Guildford's relatively poor recent run of form - despite their place at the top of the EPL standings.

The Surrey outfit have won just twice in their last eight games, although Watkins is wary of predicting another high-flying scalp for his men.

He added: "Regardless of what run Guildford are on, if it is poor, they will want to get back to winning ways.

"They will see us as the chance to do that, so we will need to go at them head-on and make it difficult."

Saturday's encounter at the Spectrum in Guidlford will take Telford back to the scene of their first victory of the season, when they earned a comfortable 4-1 success.

A repeat of that result may well prove to be a step too far for the Tigers, although a second successive victory on home ice is well within reach.

"Last Sunday was fantastic," Watkins said.

"The crowd were loud and aggressive, and that showed on the ice, which was great to see.

"I would love to see that again. You have got to want to play hockey in that sort of atmosphere. It is much more entertaining for the players and the fans, so if we get those numbers again it would be fantastic."

Saturday's match in Guidlford starts at 6pm, while Sunday's clash at Telford Ice Rink faces off at 5.30pm.
