TRS Telford Tigers have signed Marcus Maynard from Elite League giants Nottingham Panthers as boss Tom Watkins looks to add strength to his defensive line-up.
The 25-year-old made 51 appearance for Nottingham last season, helping his side to victories in both the Challenge Cup and end-of-season play-offs.
Maynard will form a key part of Telford's rearguard during the forthcoming EPL campaign, following a successful appearance at trials earlier this month.
Watkins said: "Marcus is a big guy and learned a lot when he was with the Panthers last season. But I don't think he got the ice time he was expecting.
"He came to the trials and was noticed by a lot of the fans who were there. He is just a no-nonsense defenceman who plays hard and is a battler."
Telford's search for new recruits now switches to the side's import-line-up, with Watkins aiming to add further strength to his line-up.
"I have sent out several offers to imports over the last few weeks," Watkins added.
"They will be a big upgrade over what we have had, so I hope they will tick all the right boxes.
TRS Telford Tigers netminder Declan Ryan believes raised expectations could drive the club towards a play-off spot in only its third season in existence.
The 19-year-old was unveiled alongside Ben Hunt this week, as the Tigers confirmed their netminding line-up for the 2012/13 campaign.
Ryan joined the supporters-owned club for its first season in 2010 and has since established himself as a worthy number-one custodian.
Last year saw Telford beat every team in the EPL at least once - prompting expectations of another step forward.
He said: "We've been here for three years and people will expect us to start winning games and get a play-off spot."
"I am definitely looking for us to be in the play-offs next April, so hopefully we've got the funds and the sponsors to make something happen this year."
